Di Pacci — Smart Heat-Exchanger PID Espresso Machine with Rotary Pump
ECM Mechanika MAX Coffee Machine
The ECM Mechanika Max is a heat-exchanger espresso machine that lets you set the brew temperature directly, taking the guesswork out of the flush routine HX owners know too well.
The ECM Mechanika Max is a compact German-engineered heat-exchanger (HX) machine with a 1.9 L stainless steel boiler, a quiet rotary pump and ECM's stainless steel brew group. Its PID controller runs ECM's Smart HX functions: Brew Temperature Control to set the brewing temperature directly, a Flush Advisor that tells you when a cooling flush is needed, adjustable active and passive pre-infusion, and an automatic on/off timer.
A conventional HX machine makes you guess how long to flush the group before each shot. The Max monitors the brew side and shows you, so you get the brew-and-steam-at-once convenience of a heat exchanger with temperature control much closer to a dual boiler. It runs from a 3 L tank or can be switched to a fixed water connection, and it's only 275 mm wide. An option fitted with a Coffee Sensor flow control device is also available on this page.

Key Features of the ECM Mechanika Max
🌡️ Brew Temperature Control
Set the brewing temperature on the display instead of judging it from steam boiler pressure.
💡 Flush Advisor
The machine tells you when the group is too hot and needs a cooling flush, so you stop guessing.
🌱 Adjustable pre-infusion
Active and passive pre-infusion phases can be set separately to soften the start of the shot.
🔇 Quiet rotary pump
Much quieter than a vibration pump, and it lets you switch from the 3 L tank to a fixed water connection.
⏲️ Automatic on/off timer
Program the machine to be hot and ready when you get up, and to switch off when you don't need it.
🥛 Lever steam and hot water valves
Professional quick-action lever valves with boiler and pump pressure gauges make milk work fast and controlled.
What Makes a Smart Heat Exchanger
In a heat-exchanger machine, brew water passes through a tube inside the steam boiler. That lets you brew and steam at the same time, but the brew water can overheat when the machine has been idle, so owners flush water through the group and guess when it's right.
- The Max's PID controller watches the brew side and lets you set a brewing temperature directly.
- When the group has overheated after idling, the Flush Advisor tells you to flush and when to stop.
- Pre-infusion and the on/off timer are set from the same display, so the machine is ready and repeatable each morning.
You get the speed and simplicity of a heat exchanger, steaming milk while the shot pulls, with temperature control you can repeat from one coffee to the next.

Mechanika Max vs Dual Boiler
The most common question is whether to buy a smart heat exchanger or step up to a dual boiler. Here's the Max against the dual-boiler La Pavoni Botticelli Speciality, which we also stock.

Di Pacci recommendation: Choose the Mechanika Max if you want a narrow, quiet machine that steams hard and gives you a set brew temperature without dual-boiler cost. Don't bother with it if you want to change brew temperature shot to shot for light-roast filter-style espresso; a dual boiler like the La Pavoni Botticelli Speciality handles that better.

ECM Mechanika Max — Frequently Asked Questions
Is the ECM Mechanika Max a dual boiler?
No. The Mechanika Max is a heat-exchanger machine with a 1.9 L stainless steel boiler. ECM's Smart HX functions, including Brew Temperature Control and the Flush Advisor, give it far more temperature control than a conventional heat exchanger.
Can the ECM Mechanika Max be plumbed in?
Yes. It runs from a 3 L tank as standard and can be switched to a fixed water connection. We can arrange plumbed installation in Sydney metro areas.
What is the Flush Advisor on the Mechanika Max?
It's a PID function that tells you when the brew water is too hot after the machine has been idle and a cooling flush is needed, so you don't have to guess.
What does the flow control option do?
The flow control version comes fitted with a Coffee Sensor flow control device, which lets you adjust water flow at the group during the shot for pre-infusion and flow profiling. Call (02) 9758 0760 if you're unsure which option suits you.
How big is the ECM Mechanika Max?
It measures 275 mm wide, 445 mm deep and 405 mm high without the portafilter, and weighs 23.5 kg.
Which grinder suits the Mechanika Max?
Any espresso grinder with fine stepless adjustment works well. The Eureka Mignon Specialita 55, ECM S-Automatik 64 and Niche Zero are popular pairings.
Is the Mechanika Max good for beginners?
Yes, if you're willing to learn. The PID display and Flush Advisor remove the trickiest part of owning a heat exchanger, and we offer in-store demonstrations and barista training.
