La Marzocco · Commercial Espresso

Linea 3 Group — Custom canary yellow

The Linea is the machine specialty coffee grew up on. Dual boilers, saturated groups and PID brew-temperature control, in a 3 group configuration finished in custom canary yellow.

La Marzocco was founded in Florence in 1927 by Giuseppe and Bruno Bambi, patented the first horizontal-boiler espresso machine in 1939, and in 1970 built the GS — the first dual-boiler machine with saturated groups. The Linea inherited that architecture and has been the default choice in serious cafes since the late 1980s. Machines are still hand-built near Florence.

Why the Linea is still specified

The Linea's reputation is not built on features. It is built on a thermal design that does not drift and a mechanical simplicity that makes the machine economical to keep running for decades.

Saturated groups

The group is integrated into the coffee boiler, so brew water is not cooling on its way to the coffee. This is the design La Marzocco introduced in 1970 and it remains the reason the Linea holds temperature.

Dual insulated boilers

Separate coffee and steam boilers in stainless steel, insulated to hold heat and cut energy use. Steam demand during a rush does not pull brew temperature down with it.

Commercial Linea platform

Dual boilers and saturated groups in the configuration that made the Linea the default choice for specialty cafes for over three decades.

Built to be serviced

Polished stainless body, stainless portafilters, precision baskets, and a mechanical layout technicians know well. The reason so many Lineas are still working is that keeping one going is straightforward.

What used means here

This machine has had a prior working life and is priced well below new. Expect cosmetic marks consistent with commercial use and cleaning. The Linea is bought second-hand more than almost any other commercial machine precisely because it is straightforward to service and keeps going — but it should still be assessed as used equipment.

Before ordering, check the terms that apply to this machine — our Shipping, Returns & Warranty page sets out what cover applies, and it differs between new and used equipment.

Where a 3 group fits

Three groups suits busy sites where more than one barista works the bar at once. Size to your bar layout and staffing as much as to your projected cup count, because workflow is usually the real constraint long before the machine is.

Installation: a plumbed, high-draw commercial machine requiring a mains water connection, drainage and a suitable dedicated electrical supply. Have a licensed electrician confirm your supply and a qualified technician handle installation and commissioning before first use.

Water treatment and grinder pairing

Water treatment decides how long the boilers last. Untreated supply scales them and shortens the life of everything downstream, so fit filtration or softening suited to your local water and keep to a replacement schedule. On a machine expected to run for decades it is the cheapest protection available.

The grinder matters just as much. A saturated-group machine holding temperature to half a degree will expose an inconsistent grind rather than hide it. Our commercial coffee grinders range covers models that hold a setting through service, and the wider commercial coffee machines collection is there if you are still comparing platforms.

Placing an order

Freight is calculated at checkout, and our Shipping, Returns & Warranty page covers delivery and returns terms. For questions on configuration or fit-out, contact our team, or see our finance options if you would rather spread the cost.

Questions we get asked

What makes the Linea a saturated-group machine?

The group head is integrated into the coffee boiler rather than being fed from it, so brew water is not travelling and cooling before it reaches the coffee. La Marzocco introduced the design on the GS in 1970 and it remains the basis of the brand's reputation for consistency.

How is this different from a Linea Classic S?

The Classic S is a later, separate machine. It adds dual PID across both boilers, a half-turn steam valve, cool-touch wands, app connectivity and a water sensor. This listing is the earlier Linea platform, with PID control on the brew boiler.

What does Commercial Linea platform mean?

Dual boilers and saturated groups in the configuration that made the Linea the default choice for specialty cafes for over three decades.

What do the shot timers do?

The keypads display extraction time as the shot runs, so the barista can see immediately whether a shot is running fast or slow and correct the grind before a whole batch of drinks goes out inconsistent. It is a special-order option, so not every Linea has them.

Is 3 groups right for my venue?

Three groups suits busy sites where more than one barista works the bar at once. Steam recovery and bar workflow usually become the constraint before group count does, so size to your layout and staffing as well as your cup numbers.

What do I need in place before installation?

A mains water connection, drainage and a suitable dedicated electrical supply. This is a plumbed, high-draw commercial appliance, so have a licensed electrician confirm your supply and a qualified technician carry out installation and commissioning.
