Melitta Purista Series 300 Automatic Coffee Machine

Great machine!

We are totally loving the coffee this machine makes.

My wife is now a converted coffee drinker with this machine! Say goodbye to pod coffees that were never fresh or consistent!! This machine changes the game and with one touch button operation that makes delicious coffee with crema every time!! Get one and you will love it too!!

After looking at every fully-automatic coffee machine out there for many months, I decided that none of them really do what we want - which includes multiple milk types and the ability to make extra hot milk. Added to this was the concern that the fancy machines also lock you into buying heaps of cleaning products at rip-off prices. So while they tick the box on convenience factor (except for the perennial cleaning) and simplicity, they fall down a bit on the cost saving side relative to store bought barista coffee.

Then I saw the Melitta Purista and I realised that most of my problems with the fully automatic machines is due to the milk functions. So why not split them? Get an automatic machine that grinds the beans, tamps them, pours a perfect espresso, and empties the grounds into a container and is ready to go again. And separately get milk frothers that allow me to make the milk to our liking.

In short, that is exactly what I did. I am very happy with my Melitta Purista 300. It looks great on the bench. It has a much smaller footprint to many automatic machines out there. There's no faffing about with grinders, tampers, portafilters etc. just add the beans to the hopper, water to the container and press Go.

The Purista allows us to dial the volume of the shot as well as to change the temperature (which affects the flavour) and we get a great shot every time. As per other reviews out there, I would say that the only downside to the machine so far is the waste water holder which can only hold enough waste water (used for flushing the system) for 2-4 cups of coffee depending on how large a cup we're making. For a two person household this means emptying it once or twice a day. In contrast the water container, bean hopper and waste grounds container are suitable for 2-4 days so the waste water holder is noticeably disproportionate in size.

Besides this minor bugbear, I haven't had any issues with the machine so far. It is perfectly suited for a 2-3 person coffee drinking household and does exactly what it says without any unnecessary gizmos. It was a good price machine. It makes much better coffee than pod machines with only a little bit of extra hassle factor.
