FB80 — Colour, on the GB5 Platform

The FB80 takes the engineering La Marzocco built the GB5 around and wraps it in a frame designed to be finished in colour. Same saturated groups, same dual boilers, same dual PID — in a machine meant to be looked at.

La Marzocco's FB line began with the FB70, introduced for the company's seventieth anniversary as a Linea with a body that could be produced in virtually any colour. The FB80 continues that idea on newer underpinnings: La Marzocco publish one service manual covering the GB5 and FB80 together, and the two share their boiler volumes and electrical requirements almost exactly.

What it is built around

Saturated groups

The group is integrated into the coffee boiler rather than fed from it, so brew water is not losing heat on its way to the coffee. It is the reason the FB80 holds temperature shot after shot.

Dual PID and pre-heating

Coffee and steam boiler temperatures are held electronically, and incoming water is brought up to temperature before it reaches the boiler. Together they are where the shot consistency comes from.

Insulated boilers, ruby restrictors

Insulation cuts energy use and steadies temperature. Synthetic ruby flow restrictors resist scale and erosion — a small part that quietly decides how the machine behaves after a few years on hard water.

A frame made for colour

The whole point of the FB designation. If the machine is going to be the first thing a customer sees over the counter, this is the version built for that job.

What refurbished means

Workshop attention before resale rather than sold as found. What was replaced varies by unit, so ask if the detail matters to your decision. On a platform sharing the GB5's architecture, parts and technician familiarity are both readily available.

Before ordering, check the terms that apply — our Shipping, Returns & Warranty page sets out what cover applies, and it differs between new and used equipment.

Installation: a plumbed, high-draw commercial machine needing a mains water connection, drainage and a dedicated electrical supply sized to the configuration — 20 A for a two group, 32 A for a three, 40 A for a four. Have a licensed electrician confirm your supply and a qualified technician carry out installation and commissioning.

Water treatment and grinder pairing

Ruby restrictors resist scale but they do not treat your water. Fit filtration or softening suited to your local supply and keep to a replacement schedule — scale is what ends the life of commercial boilers, and it is entirely preventable.

Pair it with a grinder that holds a setting through a full service. Dual PID this precise exposes grind inconsistency rather than masking it. Our commercial coffee grinders range covers the options, and the wider commercial coffee machines collection is there if you are still comparing platforms.

Placing an order

Freight is calculated at checkout, and our Shipping, Returns & Warranty page covers delivery and returns terms. For questions on configuration, colour or fit-out, contact our team, or see our finance options if you would rather spread the cost.

Questions we get asked

What is the difference between the FB80 and the GB5?

Mechanically very little. La Marzocco describe the FB80 as the GB5's technology in a new frame, and publish a single service manual covering both. What the FB80 adds is a body built to be finished in colour. If you want the GB5's engineering as a visual centrepiece rather than in classic stainless, that is the FB80.

Does it really have a boiler for every group?

No, and it is worth being clear because the specification is often written that way. The FB80 has two boilers: one for coffee and one for steam. A two group runs a single 3.4 litre coffee boiler. Separate boilers per group head belong to the GB5 X, the KB90 and the Strada.

What does dual PID give me?

Coffee and steam boiler temperatures are each set and held electronically rather than drifting around a set point. Combined with the pre-heating system, brew temperature stays put through heavy milk work instead of sagging when the steam boiler calls for heat.

What does the pre-heating system do?

Incoming water is brought up to temperature before it reaches the coffee boiler, so the boiler is not recovering from a cold inrush during service. It is where a lot of the FB80's shot consistency actually comes from.

Which group configuration should I choose?

Two groups covers the great majority of cafés. Three suits busy sites with more than one barista on the bar. Four is for the highest-volume and institutional settings. The electrical supply differs meaningfully between them, so check the configuration table before you commit.

What do I need in place before installation?

A mains water connection, drainage and a dedicated electrical supply sized to the configuration — 20 A for a two group, 32 A for a three, 40 A for a four. Have a licensed electrician confirm your supply and a qualified technician handle installation.

Workshop attention before resale rather than sold as found. What was replaced varies by unit, so ask if the detail matters to your decision. On a platform sharing the GB5's architecture, parts and technician familiarity are both readily available.
