Carimali Easy Quiet Automatic Tamper
The Carimali Easy Quiet Tamper takes the tamp out of your hands. Slide the portafilter in and it presses the puck to the same pressure every single time.
The Carimali Easy Quiet Tamper is a compact benchtop automatic tamper made in Italy by VEA Group, the company behind Carimali. You set the force anywhere from 10 to 39kg and choose one to three tamping cycles. A portafilter sensor starts the press about a second after you dock the handle, and each cycle takes around 2 seconds. There's no lever to pull and no button to hit mid-workflow.
It's built for the same job as the Puqpress and Cinoart units, at a footprint of only 150 × 192mm. What sets it apart is its use of adjustable tamping profiles. You can store your pressure and repeat count, restore factory settings with two buttons, and raise or lower the portafilter holder with a hex key to suit different handles. The tamper head comes in 58mm for most commercial and prosumer machines or 54mm for machines that use 54mm baskets.

Key Features of the Easy Quiet Tamper
📡 Hands-free activation
A sensor in the holder detects the portafilter and starts the tamp within a second, so your hands stay free for the next cup or the milk jug.
⚖️ 10–39kg programmable force
You can dial in a light press for fast-flowing light roasts or a firm one for dense blends, and the tamper hits that number every time.
🔁 Up to three tamps per shot
Multiple presses help settle the bed evenly, which is useful with fluffy single-dose grinds or very fine espresso settings.
💾 Saved tamping profiles
Set the force and repeat count once and save it, and every barista on the shift gets the same tamp. Holding plus and minus together restores factory defaults.
📏 Adjustable portafilter holder
Two hex screws let you raise or lower the holder, so the tamper sits correctly on portafilters with different spout and handle heights.
🧽 Easy-clean tamper head
A single button lowers the head for cleaning, so you can brush off grounds without reaching underneath or taking anything apart.
Why a Consistent Tamp Changes the Shot
Water takes the easiest path through a coffee puck. If one side is pressed harder than the other, or today's tamp is firmer than yesterday's, the flow changes. That can turn a sweet shot sour or bitter. Hand tamping varies between baristas and drifts across a long shift. An automatic tamper removes that variable, so when a shot tastes off, you know to look at the grind, not the person holding the tamper.
-
Dock: grind and distribute the dose, then slide the portafilter into the holder. The sensor triggers the tamp within a second.
-
Press: the head comes down level at your saved force (15kg twice by default) for one to three cycles of about two seconds each.
-
Brew: pull the portafilter out and lock it into the group head. The puck is flat and evenly compressed and matches the one before it.
The result is fewer channelled shots, less wasted coffee while dialling in, and the same espresso whoever is on the bar. It also means no more tamping wrist strain over a 300-cup morning.

Di Pacci recommendation: The Easy Quiet Tamper is the one to choose if you need a 54mm head, want a heavier, more planted unit on a busy bar, or like the simplicity of one saved profile. The PT2 suits you better if you want very light tamps below 10kg or a different force for each of the three presses. Don't bother with either if you pull a handful of shots a day at home, because a good calibrated hand tamper does the job for a fraction of the price.
Pair It With the Right Grinder
An automatic tamper only locks in consistency if the dose going into it is consistent too. These grinders and tools work well with the Easy Quiet Tamper.
| Product |
Type |
Why it pairs well |
| Mazzer grinders |
Flat burr, on-demand |
A steady, repeatable dose from a commercial-grade grinder means the tamper's fixed force translates into a repeatable shot. |
| Eureka Mignon range |
Flat burr, quiet |
These are quiet grinders that go with a quiet tamper, and they're ideal for open kitchens, carts and home bars. |
| Niche Zero |
63mm conical, single-dose |
Single-dosed grounds are fluffy, and two or three tamp cycles settle them into an even bed. |
| Precision distribution tools |
WDT and distributors |
The tamper presses evenly, but it can't fix clumps. Distributing first gives it a level bed to work on. |

Who This Tamper Is For
✓ Ideal if you:
- Run a café or cart where several baristas share one machine and shots need to taste the same all day
- Pull enough shots that hand tamping causes wrist or shoulder strain
- Use a machine with 58mm baskets, or one with 54mm baskets that few auto tampers cater for
- Want a tamp that starts automatically without pulling a lever or pressing a button
- Have about 150 × 192mm of bench space and 300mm of height to spare beside the grinder
✗ Consider alternatives if you:
- Make a few coffees a day at home, where a Precision Calibrated Tamper gives a consistent tamp for far less
- Want the tamper mounted under the grinder spout to save bench space, where the Puqpress M2 is built for that
- Need tamps lighter than 10kg, where the Cinoart PT2 goes down to 2kg
- Use 51mm or 53mm baskets, because the head only comes in 58mm and 54mm
Carimali Easy Quiet Tamper — Frequently Asked Questions
Which size Carimali Easy Quiet Tamper do I need, 58mm or 54mm?
Match the head to your basket size. Choose 58mm for most commercial and E61-style machines, and 54mm for machines that use 54mm baskets. If you're unsure whether your portafilter will sit correctly in the holder, contact us with your machine model before ordering.
How do I change the tamping pressure on the Easy Quiet Tamper?
Hold the Set button until the display flashes, then use + and − to adjust the force (10–39kg) and the number of cycles (1–3). Press Save when you're done. To return to the factory profile of 15kg and two cycles, hold + and − together. Step-by-step instructions are in the user manual (PDF).
What tamping pressure should I use?
The factory setting of 15kg with two cycles is a sensible starting point for most espresso. Above roughly 15–20kg, extra force changes flow less than a grind adjustment does, so dial in with the grinder and keep the tamp fixed. The value of an automatic tamper is that the pressure stays the same, not that it presses harder.
Is the Easy Quiet Tamper really quiet?
It's designed for quiet operation, and each cycle lasts only about two seconds, so it won't add much to the noise of a working bar. The manufacturer doesn't publish a decibel figure, so we can't quote one.
What power does it need?
It's rated at 60W and runs from an external power supply that plugs into the back of the unit. It needs only a standard power outlet, not a dedicated circuit.
How do I clean the Carimali Easy Quiet Tamper?
Hold the Save button to bring the tamper head down. Unplug the unit, then brush or wipe the grounds off the head and holder with a cloth. Plug it back in and hold the same button to return the head to its resting position. Don't immerse the unit, the power supply or the lead in water.
Will it fit my portafilter?
The holder height adjusts with two hex screws, so it can be set for most standard portafilters in the matching basket size. Very unusual handle shapes or bottomless designs may sit differently, so let us know your machine and portafilter and we'll confirm the fit.
What warranty does the Easy Quiet Tamper have?
Di Pacci covers it with a 12-month parts and labour warranty. Repairs and service are handled through our in-house service team.
