Di Pacci — Filter & Batch Brew — Australia

Breville Luxe Brewer Thermal — One-Touch Golden Cup Filter Coffee

The Breville Luxe Brewer Thermal (BDC465) brews genuine specialty-grade filter coffee at the press of a button — certified to Specialty Coffee Association Golden Cup standards, with a dual-wall vacuum carafe that holds your brew hot for hours without a hotplate cooking it.

It is the batch brewer for people who already care about their beans. A precision brew head saturates the bed evenly, an adjustable bloom releases CO₂ before extraction begins, and brew temperature and flow rate can be tuned and saved so a light Ethiopian and a dark Brazilian each get the profile they deserve. Choose a single cup, a full 12-cup carafe, or switch to Cold Brew for a concentrated base you can build espresso-style drinks from.

Because the carafe is thermally insulated rather than heated, coffee brewed at 7am still tastes like coffee at 10am — no stewing, no scorched aftertaste, no bitterness creeping in as the pot sits. For households, offices, and anyone who drinks more than two cups a morning, that alone changes the daily routine.

Key Features

🏅 Golden Cup Standard Brews within the SCA-certified temperature and contact-time window, so extraction lands in the sweet spot without manual intervention.
🫙 Thermal Carafe Vacuum-insulated stainless steel carafe keeps coffee above 65°C for up to four hours — no hotplate, no stewed flavours.
🎛️ Custom Brew Profiles Set and save bloom volume and time, brew temperature, and flow rate to suit each roast, then recall it with one press.
🧊 Cold Brew Preset Brews up to 600 ml of concentrated cold brew with adjustable steep time — a ready base for iced lattes and long blacks.
🔘 Two Filter Baskets Flat bottom and #4 cone baskets included. Cone lifts fruit and acidity; flat bottom brings out floral, nutty and chocolate notes.
💧 Removable Water Tank 1.8L tank lifts out for filling at the tap, with a wide lid and clear measuring lines — a real upgrade on fixed-reservoir brewers.

Single Cup, Full Carafe, or Cold Brew

The Luxe Brewer is built around three ways of drinking coffee rather than one. Single cup mode brews straight into a mug for a fast solo cup. Carafe mode fills the full 12-cup thermal jug for a household, a meeting, or a long morning. Cold Brew runs a concentrated extraction you can dilute over ice or use as the base for milk drinks — no overnight jar in the fridge, no cloth filter to wrestle with.

The programmable timer lets you set the machine to start up to 24 hours ahead, so the carafe is full and hot before you have made it to the kitchen. Combine that with the insulated carafe and one brew comfortably covers a whole morning.

Why the Bloom Setting Matters

Freshly roasted coffee holds trapped carbon dioxide. Poured on all at once, that gas pushes water away from the grounds and produces a patchy, sour extraction. The Luxe Brewer's adjustable pre-infusion wets the bed with a controlled dose of water and pauses, letting the CO₂ escape before the main brew begins. On coffee roasted within the last two weeks — the kind we roast in-house at Roselands — the difference in sweetness and clarity is immediately obvious in the cup.

Why Buy From Di Pacci

Di Pacci has specialised in coffee equipment since 2010, with showrooms in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Port Macquarie and Queensland, an in-house roastery and a full service workshop at our Roselands headquarters. We are not a general appliance retailer — coffee is the only thing we do.

That means the person answering the phone has actually brewed on this machine, can tell you honestly whether a filter brewer or an espresso setup suits how you drink, and can match it to beans roasted here in Sydney. Orders over $200 ship free Australia-wide, dispatched same day when placed before 2pm. More about Di Pacci.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Breville Luxe Brewer Thermal make espresso?

No. The Luxe Brewer is a filter (drip) coffee brewer — it gravity-feeds hot water through a bed of medium-ground coffee rather than forcing it through at pressure. It has no pump, portafilter or steam wand. If you want espresso, milk-based drinks or latte art, look at our home espresso machine range instead. Many customers own both: an espresso machine for afternoon flat whites and the Luxe Brewer for the morning carafe.

What grind size should I use?

A medium grind — roughly the texture of coarse sand — suits both filter baskets. If your brew tastes thin or sour, grind finer; if it tastes harsh or dries the mouth, grind coarser. Cold brew wants noticeably coarser grounds again. A burr grinder makes a far bigger difference here than most people expect, because consistent particle size is what lets the water extract evenly across the whole bed.

How long does the thermal carafe actually keep coffee hot?

Breville rates the dual-wall vacuum carafe at above 65°C for up to four hours. Because there is no hotplate underneath, the coffee cools slowly instead of continuing to cook — so the last cup tastes like the first rather than turning bitter and flat. Pre-warming the carafe with hot water before brewing extends the useful window further.

What is the difference between the cone and flat bottom filter baskets?

Research by the SCA and UC Davis found basket geometry measurably changes flavour. The cone basket concentrates flow toward a single point and tends to highlight brighter, fruitier notes — a good match for light single origins. The flat bottom basket spreads water across an even bed and produces a rounder cup with more floral, nutty and chocolate character, which suits medium and darker roasts. Both are included, so you can compare with the same beans.

How do I clean and descale it?

Rinse the carafe, basket and shower head after each use, and wash the water tank every few days. Descaling every two to three months keeps the heating system and flow rate accurate — more often if you are on hard water. Using filtered water from the start dramatically reduces scale build-up, which is the single most common cause of premature failure in any brewer.

Does it need plumbing or installation?

No. It is a benchtop appliance that fills from a removable tank and plugs into a standard Australian power point. Unbox it, rinse the components, run one brew cycle with water only, and it is ready. Allow around 10 cm of clearance on all sides for ventilation and easy tank removal.

How many people does one carafe serve?

A full carafe is 1.8 litres, or twelve 150 ml cups — comfortably four to six generous mugs. That makes it well suited to families, share houses, and small offices where a single-serve machine creates a queue. Smaller volumes brew just as accurately, and single cup mode brews straight into a mug when you are on your own.
