La Marzocco · Commercial Espresso

Linea S 2 Group — Hot orange

The Linea S is the updated Linea Classic. Same dual boilers and saturated groups that made the original a fixture in serious cafés, now with dual PID control, a half-turn steam valve and a water sensor that tells you when your filtration has stopped working.

La Marzocco did not redesign the Linea so much as bring it up to date. The thermal architecture is unchanged — it did not need changing. What the S adds is electronic control over both boilers rather than one, an interface built around how baristas actually work, and engineering revisions aimed at longer part life and easier servicing.

What the S generation changed

Dual PID, not single

The older Linea Classic runs a single PID on the brew boiler. The S controls coffee and steam boiler temperatures independently, which is the difference between stable espresso and stable espresso that stays stable through heavy milk work.

Half-turn steam valve

Full steaming power in half a turn. Across several hundred milk drinks a day that is a real reduction in wrist movement — an injury-prevention change first, a speed one second.

Linea S platform

The Linea S is built in semi-automatic (EE) and auto-volumetric (AV) configurations. This listing does not specify which, so it is worth confirming before you order — it determines whether shots stop automatically at a programmed volume.

A water sensor worth having

Conductivity and hardness measured as water enters the machine. You find out that filtration has failed while it is still a filter problem, rather than after it has become a boiler problem.

Saturated groups carry over unchanged: the group is integrated into the coffee boiler, so brew water is not losing heat travelling to it. Pro-touch steam wands stay cool to the handle, and the machine connects natively to the La Marzocco Pro App for day-to-day settings and usage data.

Buying new

An unused machine as current production, with its full service life ahead of it.

Before ordering, check the terms that apply — our Shipping, Returns & Warranty page sets out what cover applies, and it differs between new and used equipment.

Where a 2 group fits

Two groups is the standard café configuration and covers the great majority of venues. Size to your bar layout and staffing as much as to your projected cup count, because workflow is usually the real constraint long before the machine is.

Installation: a plumbed commercial machine requiring a mains water connection, drainage and a suitable dedicated electrical supply. Have a licensed electrician confirm your supply and a qualified technician carry out installation and commissioning before first use.

Water and grinder

The sensor will report on your water but it will not treat it. Fit filtration or softening suited to your local supply and keep to a replacement schedule — scale is what ends the life of commercial boilers, and it is entirely preventable.

Pair it with a grinder that holds a setting through service. Dual PID control this precise exposes grind inconsistency rather than masking it. Our commercial coffee grinders range covers the options, and the wider commercial coffee machines collection is there if you are still comparing platforms.

Freight is calculated at checkout, and our Shipping, Returns & Warranty page covers delivery and returns terms. For questions on configuration or fit-out, contact our team, or see our finance options if you would rather spread the cost.

Frequently asked questions

How is the Linea S different from the older Linea Classic?

The S is the updated generation. The significant change is dual PID — the older Linea Classic has a single PID controlling the brew boiler, while the S controls both coffee and steam boilers electronically. It also adds a half-turn steam valve, app connectivity and a water sensor, with engineering changes aimed at longer part life and simpler servicing.

What does the half-turn steam valve do?

The valve reaches full steaming power in half a turn instead of a full one. Over hundreds of milk drinks a day that is a meaningful reduction in wrist movement, which is the point — it is an injury-prevention change as much as a speed one.

What does Linea S platform mean?

The Linea S is built in semi-automatic (EE) and auto-volumetric (AV) configurations. This listing does not specify which, so it is worth confirming before you order — it determines whether shots stop automatically at a programmed volume.

What does the water sensor tell me?

It measures the conductivity and hardness of water entering the machine, so you can see whether your filtration is still working rather than finding out when a boiler scales up. No separate test kit needed.

Does it have drip-tray scales?

No. Integrated scales and Auto Brew Ratio dosing belong to other machines in the range — the Linea PB ABR, the KB90 ABR and the GB5 in ABR configuration. The Linea S doses by programmed volume.

Is 2 groups right for my venue?

Two groups is the standard café configuration and covers the great majority of venues. Steam recovery and bar workflow usually become the constraint before group count does, so size to your layout and staffing as well as your cup numbers.

What do I need in place before installation?

A mains water connection, drainage and a suitable dedicated electrical supply. This is a plumbed commercial appliance, so have a licensed electrician confirm your supply and a qualified technician handle installation and commissioning.

Buying new?

An unused machine as current production, with its full service life ahead of it.
