Handmade Dutch Single Group Espresso

Kees van der Westen Speedster Dual PID, Rotary Vane Pump, Raw Body

The Kees van der Westen Speedster is a handmade single group espresso machine with separate coffee and steam boilers, dual PID control and a plumbed-in rotary vane pump. This version has a raw body with white accents.

Kees van der Westen builds espresso machines in the Netherlands, and the Speedster is its single group model for the home. It is a machine for enthusiasts who want a coffee boiler of their own, a pre-infusion system they can tune and a finish that stands out on the bench.

  • Dual PID
  • Separate Coffee Boiler
  • Rotary Vane Pump
  • Pre-Infusion
  • Shot Timer
  • Plumbed-In

What makes the Speedster special

Everything on the Speedster is there to give the barista control over temperature, pressure and timing.

Dual PID control

Separate PID controllers manage the coffee boiler and the steam boiler. Factory settings are 93 degrees Celsius for coffee and 135 degrees for steam, and both can be adjusted.

Dedicated coffee boiler

A 2.1L coffee boiler sits alongside a 3.5L steam boiler. Brewing and steaming have their own temperature control, so milk drinks do not disturb the shot.

Tunable pre-infusion

A dual-spring pre-infusion cylinder and an expansion valve set at 11.5 to 12.5 bar let you shape how pressure builds. A 3-way lever allows manual pre-infusion.

Rotary vane pump

A separate rotary vane pump with its own electric motor supplies water at a minimum of 4 litres per minute, and the machine connects to the mains.

Display and controls

A shot timer display and pressure gauge sit on the front, and hot water or mix-water can be dispensed at an adjustable temperature. A foot-operated steam valve is available as an option.

Who it suits

  • Enthusiasts who want control over temperature and pre-infusion
  • Collectors who value handmade machines and design
  • Kitchens with a water line available for a plumbed-in machine
  • Milk coffee drinkers who want steam power alongside a dedicated coffee boiler

Setup note: the Speedster is a plumbed-in machine, so it needs a mains water connection and a sturdy bench. The standard version draws 3100W and a low-amp version draws 2200W. Call 09 9779924 and we will confirm which suits your supply before you order.

Getting the best out of it

The Speedster has no built-in grinder, so pair it with a high-quality grinder from our home coffee grinders and use freshly roasted coffee beans. With this much control available, change one variable at a time: grind first, then temperature, then pre-infusion.

Fit a water filter on the supply line, and descale on a regular schedule. See other machines in our home coffee machines.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Speedster have a built-in grinder?

No. The Speedster is an espresso machine only, so you will need a separate burr grinder.

What does dual PID mean?

Two PID controllers manage temperature, one for the coffee boiler and one for the steam boiler. Each can be set independently.

Does it need to be plumbed in?

Yes. The Speedster connects to the mains water supply.

What are the power options?

The standard version draws 3100W at 13.5A and a low-amp version draws 2200W at 9.6A. Contact us to confirm which version suits your supply.

How heavy is the Speedster?

It weighs 40kg empty and 45kg when filled, so plan for two people to lift it.

What warranty applies?
