La Marzocco Β· Commercial Espresso

KB90 2 Group β€” Commercial Espresso

The KB90 is La Marzocco's answer to a specific question: what slows a busy bar down, and what injures the people working it. The answer was the portafilter, and redesigning it produced the fastest machine the company builds.

Built on the Linea PB's architecture and aimed at the highest-volume cafes, the KB90 keeps the dual boilers, saturated groups and PID control that made the PB a standard, then adds a straight-in portafilter, automatic Steam Flush and an independent brew boiler for every group.

What actually makes it faster

Straight-in portafilter

It slides in on rails and releases with a thumb press instead of being twisted home. La Marzocco puts the reduction in barista strain at twelve times β€” an ergonomics change, not a marketing one, and the reason the machine exists.

Automatic Steam Flush

After every extraction a burst of steam purges the brew path and hot water flushes the group. Less residue, cleaner cups late in service, and fewer interruptions to backflush when the queue is out the door.

A brew boiler per group

Each group runs its own saturated boiler, so a darker house blend and a lighter single origin can be extracted at different temperatures on the same bar at the same time.

Auto-Volumetric dosing

Programmable dose buttons per group. Combined with the straight-in portafilter, the result is a bar where output does not depend on which barista happens to be on.

Serviceability worth knowing about

Because the KB90 shares its boiler architecture, saturated groups and PID control with the Linea PB, a technician servicing one is not learning a new machine or stocking a separate parts inventory. The steam valve is engineered to be rebuilt from the front of the machine. On equipment expected to run for a decade or more, that kind of detail matters more than any spec on the sheet.

What ex-demo means

Used for demonstration rather than trade β€” short supervised runs rather than continuous service, which is why ex-demo machines often present close to new at well below new pricing. Still a used machine.

Before ordering, check the terms that apply β€” our Shipping, Returns & Warranty page sets out what cover applies, and it differs between new and used equipment.

Choosing a configuration

Two groups is the standard cafe configuration and covers the great majority of venues. Steam recovery and bar workflow usually become the constraint before group count does β€” and workflow is precisely what this machine was designed around.

Installation: a plumbed, high-draw commercial machine requiring a mains water connection, drainage and a suitable dedicated electrical supply. Electrical requirements vary with configuration, so have a licensed electrician confirm your supply and a qualified technician carry out installation and commissioning.

Water treatment and grinder pairing

Water treatment decides boiler life. Fit filtration or softening suited to your local supply and keep to a replacement schedule β€” with an independent boiler per group there is more to protect here than on a single-boiler machine, not less.

Pair it with a grinder that holds its setting through a full service. A machine this precise will expose grind inconsistency rather than mask it. Our commercial coffee grinders range covers the options, and the wider commercial coffee machines collection is there if you are still comparing platforms.

Placing an order

Freight is calculated at checkout, and our Shipping, Returns & Warranty page covers delivery and returns terms. For questions on configuration or fit-out, contact our team, or see our finance options if you would rather spread the cost.

Questions we get asked

What is the straight-in portafilter?

Instead of twisting the portafilter into the group, it slides straight in on rails and releases with a press of the thumb. La Marzocco states the redesign reduces strain on the barista by twelve times compared with a conventional twist engagement, which is aimed squarely at the repetitive-stress injuries that come with high drink counts.

What does Steam Flush do?

After each extraction a burst of steam from the steam boiler purges the brew path, followed by a flush of hot water. It keeps the group clean through a rush, cuts residue build-up and reduces how often a barista has to stop and backflush mid-service.

How is this different from a Linea PB?

The KB90 is built on the Linea PB's architecture β€” dual boilers, saturated groups, PID control β€” with the straight-in portafilter and Steam Flush added, plus an independent brew boiler for each group. It is the workflow-focused version of the same platform, which also means servicing does not require a separate parts inventory.

Does this machine have drip-tray scales?

No. Precision drip-tray scales and the Drip Prediction algorithm are fitted to the ABR version of the KB90 only. This is the Auto-Volumetric configuration, which doses by programmed volume.

Why independent brew boilers per group?

Each group head has its own saturated brew boiler, so temperature can be set differently on each. On a bar running a darker house espresso alongside a lighter single origin, that means both can be extracted at the temperature they actually want.

What do I need in place before installation?

A mains water connection, drainage and a suitable dedicated electrical supply. Electrical requirements vary by configuration, so have a licensed electrician confirm your supply and a qualified technician handle installation and commissioning.

What ex-demo means?

Used for demonstration rather than trade β€” short supervised runs rather than continuous service, which is why ex-demo machines often present close to new at well below new pricing. Still a used machine.
