The grinder decides more about the cup than the machine does. A modest espresso machine with a good grinder will out-perform an expensive one fed by a poor grinder every time — the grind sets how water moves through the puck, and nothing downstream can correct it. Our range runs from hand grinders through to single-dose and flat-burr machines: Eureka, Mazzer, Baratza, Mahlkönig, ECM, Compak, Macap, Acaia and Precision.

Flat or conical burrs

Conical burrs run cooler and are forgiving to dial in — common at entry level and in hand grinders. Flat burrs, in the Eureka Atom and Mignon XL, ECM S-Automatik and Macap L70D, produce a more uniform particle size, which many find gives a clearer espresso. Both make excellent coffee; flat simply rewards a fussier setup.

Espresso, filter or both

Espresso needs fine adjustment in very small steps, which is why stepless grinders like the Eureka Mignon range suit it. Filter and plunger want a coarser grind — the Baratza Encore and Precision GS1 are built for that. Single-dose models such as the Eureka Mignon Oro and Acaia Orbit weigh beans in per shot, keeping retention low and letting you switch coffees without waste.
